After you’ve registered your interest with our company by filling in our contact form, our sales team will arrange a video chat with you to discuss your requirements in detail. We will also provide you with details about popular Open edX® use cases and features that will help you to define your own requirements. You may also want us to develop custom integrations and apps to extend your Open edX® platform’s capabilities.
The information we gather during the call is held in strict confidentiality and is used to determine the resources needed for your Open edX® platform. Then, we’ll provide you with a cost estimate along with a preliminary architecture diagram (if required). Once you’re agreeable with the cost estimate, we’ll provide you with a full financial proposal including a detailed summary of your custom Open edX® platform. How much does the average Open edX® project cost?
Open edX® is open source which means it’s free-of-charge to use. If you have your own experienced in-house software team you can try set it up by yourself, however most organisations choose to hire a professional Open edX® team like us. Therefore at a minimum you need to pay for the work hours and resources that it takes to develop your Open edX® platform. Our ethos is to cater for organisations of all sizes and project budgets, including micro, small, medium, large, and enterprise-size organisations/projects. Micro entities spend $2,500.00 – $5,000.00 to set up and white label (brand) an Open edX® platform. Small organisations will usually invest at least $5,000.00 – $10,000.00, adding a few custom Open edX® XBlocks and 3rd party plugins and/or integrations. Medium-sized organisations tend to spend $10,000.00 – $30,000.00 to achieve their desired outcome. Large organisations spend upwards of $30,000.00, while enterprise-sized clients budget at least $50,000.00.
Do I need to invest in my own custom Open edX® instance or can I use a ready-made solution like ABC LMS?
It depends on what you’re desired outcome is. If you want your own Open edX® platform that runs entirely on it’s own private server infrastructure and is a completely custom endeavour, then yes you need your own Open edX® instance. In contrast, if all you want to do is to get started building and selling your own online courses quickly, then you can simply get a monthly subscription to ABC LMS for $1 per user/course. You can always easily move your ABC LMS hosted courses to your own custom Open edX® platform in the future.
What are the smallest and largest Open edX® projects that ABC Online Courses has undertaken?
The smallest Open edX® project would be a single server installation with minimal branding and no plugins or customisations, costing about $2,500.00. The largest project we have undertaken was a country-level Open edX® platform where the budget was $1,000,000.00 for a five (5) year period.
