ABC are serious supporters of environmental education. As such, we are committed members of the Botanical Society of South Africa (BotSoc) headquartered at the world-famous Kirstenbosch Gardens. In 2018, ABC was honoured to receive an invitation from Zaitoon Rabaney, the Executive Director of BotSoc, to be present on the panel of the Communications and Marketing Think Tank 2018.

The Think Tank, amongst other goals, aims to promote stronger collaboration between the multi-disciplinary panel members who currently support BotSoc. Covering a broad spectrum of topics such as law and online education, graphic design, social media, marketing, operations, all of the panel members engaged around specific deliverables in line with BotSoc’s communications and marketing strategy. Of special note was the discussion surrounding the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI Act) because in this digital age it is important to be prudent in matters of privacy.

Being a member of BotSoc has meant a great deal to the team at ABC. Our employees regularly visit the Kirstenbosch and Harold Porter botanical gardens in the Western Cape as our head office is in Stellenbosch central, but our annual BotSoc membership fee means we are contributing towards the management of the SANBI National Botanical Gardens nationally. There are so many other benefits as a BotSoc member, including free access to all 10 National Botanical Gardens, and an annual membership to BotSoc’s flagship Veld and Flora magazine which is delivered to your doorstep monthly!

You are welcome to support and become a volunteer with the BotSoc programmes. One such programme is the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers programme (CREW) where you can make a direct contribution and learn more about our rich floral heritage. Why not visit the BotSoc website today at www.botanicalsociety.org.za and ask them for a membership application form?
